Anti-Cancer Supplements

Last updated: March 20, 2018

The United States is in the midst of a cancer epidemic. According to the American Cancer Society, 40% of American men and 38% of American women will get cancer in their lifetimes. And one out of every five Americans will die of cancer.1 Those are alarming figures! Fortunately, the best science indicates that certain natural substances can reduce your risk of getting cancer. Furthermore, if you already have cancer, these same supplements have been used successfully to resist and even defeat cancer.

Aspirin

One of the most under-reported stories in the United States is a huge Chinese cancer study involving 600,000 people. Researchers found that people who took aspirin daily for an average of seven years demonstrated dramatically lower incidences of various types of cancer:

Cancer Type Reduction in Risk
Liver 47%
Oesophageal 47%
Gastric 38%
Lung 35%
Pancreatic 34%
Colorectal 24%
Leukemia 24%
Prostate 14%

For those who already have cancer, The Telegraph reported, "a study by Cardiff University found that a daily aspirin increased the chance of surviving bowel, breast and prostate cancer by 20 per cent."

Conclusion: Daily aspirin is the cheapest and most effective drug to reduce your risk of cancer. Aspirin is not without side effects, so please check with your doctor before taking. There are also a number of natural supplements (not drugs) listed below that may also be effective against cancer with less side effects.

Curcumin

Curcumin comes from the tumeric plant which has been used for thousands of years in India as both a food flavoring and a medicine. In addition to being a longevity herb and an anti-inflammatory, there is compelling evidence curcumin could be effective against cancer. Over 2,000 published studies have show curcummin is effective in fighting cancer.2

One example is Dieneke Ferguson who, at the age of 57, was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2007. Dieneke underwent five rounds of chemotherapy without success. Then Dieneke started eating 8 grams of curcumin every night. According to the British Medical Journal, this stopped the progression of the disease.3

What is the limitation with Curcumin? Curcumin is very poorly absorbed by the digestive system. According to the National Institute of Health, curcumin absorption rate through the gut is only about 1%!4 This problem has been solved by one company called Vasayo that uses a proprietary delivery technology which studies have shown allows for 85% - 95% absorption of nutrients. The nutrients are encased in proprietary liposomes, which are double-layered "bubbles" or spheres of fat that surround nutrients. This enables them to pass through the harsh environment of the digestive system intact for better absorption by the body.

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant found in red wine, peanuts, grapes, and other berries. Since the 1990s it has been studied for its cardiovascular benefits and anti-caner properties. Resveratrol is currently being studied as a potential anti-cancer agent. One of the most promising studies combined resveratrol with curcumin. According to this 2009 study, "the combination of curcumin and resveratrol were able to significantly inhibit colon cancer cell growth."5

What is the limitation with Resveratrol? Although the body absorbs resveratrol easily, it is not very bioavailable to the body. Studies have shown that after resveratrol is ingested, large amounts of it end up in the urine, but only trace amounts can be found in the blood.6 In one study, people were given 500mg of resveratrol. Scientiest found that 75% of it was absorbed, which is good. However, less than 1% was bioavailable because it was destroyed by the "rapid and extensive metabolism in the intestine and liver."7 The only known solutions to increase the bioavailability of resveratrol are the Vasayo liposomal delivery system and piperine (black pepper). The problem with piperine is that it can irritate gastric problems like ulcers and acid reflux. It also can inhibit enzymes that absorb drugs.

Acai Berry

The acai berry has become a popular super-food. A study by the University of Florida published in the January, 2006, issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, found that when Acai was applied directly to leukemia cells, 86% of them died. Of course, that was in a laboratory. Applying Acai directly to cancer cells in the body is more of a challenge. This is where the Vasayo liposomal delivery system provides the advantage of getting the acai directly into the body's cells.

Shiitake Mushroom

Shiitake Mushrooms have long been known as an immune system booster with anti-cancer properties. One human study found that Shiitake mushrooms inhibited the growth of cancer cells.8 According to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, an ingredient in Shiitake named "lentinan was shown to be effective in extending survival in patients with stomach, colorectal, pancreatic, and liver cancers."9
